Tutoring and Other Assistance

As Mayland transitions to online course delivery, face-to-face tutoring will not be available. However, there are several excellent resources for academic support available to you. Please take advantage of these resources, and reach out for assistance when needed.

•Online Tutoring via NetTutor
•A link to NetTutor is available as soon as you log in to Moodle. NetTutor is a free and very user-friendly Live Tutoring Service. It offers 24/7 help for English, Math, and Paper Writing (upload a draft and get it back with improvement suggestions). Many other subjects are offered according to the NetTutor Live Tutoring Schedule. (Direct Access to Free Online Tutoring links only work when you logged into Moodle.)
•Virtual Academic Support Center
•For online access to the Academic Support Center, you can email Ben Duncan at bduncan@mayland.edu to schedule a meeting via Zoom. Ben will be available and responding to emails during the ASC’s regular hours, 9:00 am-3:00 pm, Tuesday-Friday. He will provide instructions via email for accessing Zoom, which is very easy to use.

Moodle Issues:
•The 24/7 Moodle Help Desk provides both real time help and a Frequently Asked Question section, so you can quickly get help if you get stuck while working in a course. The service offers both live telephone [(877)-909-3112] help as will a Chat feature.

Remember, if you have questions, you always have access to your instructors via phone or email. Please contact Dora Smith (dsmith@mayland.edu; 828-766-1260), the Tutoring Coordinator, if you have specific questions about tutoring or academic support.

Financial Aid Information

In order to comply with guidance from state and local officials to proactively limit the spread of COVID-19 and to protect the health and safety of students and employees, the Mayland Financial Aid Department will be working from a distance, rather than in office, for the NEXT TWO WEEKS.

During this time, our department will communicate any important announcements through student email, as well as our Important Announcements web page at https://www.mayland.edu/financial-aid/important-dates/.

Please feel free to contact your financial aid representatives via email at finaid@mayland.edu. If you contact a representative via telephone, please leave a voicemail with your name, telephone number and a good email address, if you do not have access to a Mayland email address. We will primarily respond to questions and concerns via email but we are able to respond to telephone numbers if an email is not available.

If there is a need for an in office visit, please let Sonja Peterson, Director of Financial Aid, know via email at speterson@mayland.edu or telephone at 828.766.1240.

At the end of the next two weeks, March 30, 2020, Mayland Community College will re-evaluate the situation and determine our next course of action.

Thank you for your understanding and patience during this time, and as always, thank you for choosing Mayland Community College to further your education!
