Kids Can: Make Braided Jewelry! (3 Hours) Ages 8-12.

Kids will learn braiding techniques and bead applications to create their own one-of-a-kind handmade jewelry! At the end of class, students will get the opportunity to present their hand-made goodness to their classmates. A fun time will be had by all.

Fun with Fusing—Fused Glass (12 Hours) Ages 8-14.

Complete 4 different fused glass projects over the course of the 4 weeks. Learn nipping and cutting of glass, as well as the fusing process and safety of glass handling. The first 3 projects will be available during the following weeks’ class and the final project will be available for pick up one week after camp ends at the Yancey Learning Center. Bring a snack and a bottle of water.

Kid Can: Get Creative with Junkyard Wars (3 Hours) Ages 8 and up.

Inspire creativity in this fun class for kids! Students are given the task of building a machine using only the items given to them. Students will create and present their machine to the group and have lots of fun in the process!

I Can Be a Paramedic Officer (2 Hours) Ages 6-10.

EMS Program Director Josh Cooke will introduce you to the world of EMS. You will get an up-close look at the day-to-day operations of an EMT/ Paramedic. You will get to spend time looking at our ambulance and also spend time in the back of our brand new ambulance classroom simulator. There you will work your way through a simulated EMS call and do actual skills on our High Fidelity Mannequin. If your dream is to be a Paramedic then you don’t want to miss this! (Register early space is limited to 10 students)

I Can Be a Nurse (2 Hours) Ages 6-10.

Nursing Simulation Coordinator Elizabeth Payne will introduce you to the world of Nursing. You will get an up-close look at what it is like to be a nurse. You will spend time in the nursing simulation lab working with the faculty and simulators to learn a few basic nursing skills. You will then have the opportunity to apply your new knowledge to assist in providing nursing care to our high-fidelity simulator. CSI For a Day (3 Hours) Ages 8-12.

Students will be introduced to the world of forensic science and criminal investigations. Learn the importance of collecting evidence using scientific principles and hands-on techniques. Students will conduct experiments dealing with DNA, fingerprinting, impressions, casting, and crime scene analysis.

Join us for this “Who done it?” crime-solving camp to learn about a day in the life of law enforcement professionals. Process a mock crime scene, discuss the careers available in law enforcement,

Learn to create using one of the most popular adhesives around! Make your very own magnetic clutch or wallet made from sturdy, attractive, and colorful Duct tape! Students will choose from a variety of designs and apply measurement skills and cutting techniques to create their own one-of-a-kind functional accessory.

Houston—We’re Ready to Launch (2.5 Hours) Ages 7-15.
Jr astronauts learn to assemble a rocket. Then learn all about rocket launches inside the Arthur
Planetarium. Learn how organizations like SPACEX and NASA are progressing space flight. End the afternoon with an epic launch party at the Earth to Sky Park lawn.

Nature Walk & Talk (2 Hours) Ages 7-15 NEW!

Learn about the minerals in our ground such as mica and quartz, spot the difference between types of trees, identify mushrooms, and possibly meet some forest creatures along the way! In this session, we learn about the natural world around us and how we can identify objects found in the forest. Come home with your own nature journal and new knowledge of the woods.

Space Camp: A Week of Adventure (15 Hours) Ages 7-15.
In this camp Jr Astronauts will craft upcycled rocket filed jet packs, cardboard space shuttles
and space helmets and explore the solar system in the Arthur Planetarium & ESP Classroom.
Jr Astronauts will watch kid friendly STEAM programming in the dome and learn about space
travel, the moon, planets, and the cosmos. Finally, Jr. Astronauts will participate in “astronaut
training” by learning to garden in an “extraterrestrial styled environment” and eat astronaut
ice cream!
