Apply for Financial Aid

After you have completed steps 1-3 on the How to Apply web page, it is now time to apply for Financial Aid!

Complete the FAFSA

  • Apply online for your FSA ID – a username and password which confirms your identity when you access your financial aid information and electronically sign Federal Student Aid documents. If you are a dependent, both you and a parent will need an FSA ID. Please be sure to keep this information secure as you will need it for the entirety of your post secondary educational career.
  • If applicable, be sure you have access to the appropriate tax returns and associated W-2’s and/or 1099’s for both yourself and your parents (if you are dependent).
    • 2020-2021 FAFSA
      • Used for Fall 2020, Spring 2021 and Summer 2021 semesters.
      • 2018 tax returns and associated W-2’s and/or 1099’s
    • 2021-2022 FAFSA
      • Used for Fall 2021, Spring 2022 and Summer 2022
      • 2019 tax returns and associated W-2’s and/or 1099’s
  • Mayland’s federal school code is 011197.
  • Submit the FAFSA at www.fafsa.ed.gov.
    • Please use your FSA ID information to log in.
    • Be sure to use the IRS Data Retrieval Tool to populate tax information if allowed.
  • Contact the Financial Aid Office to schedule an appointment for help with the FAFSA or view the FAFSA tutorial.

Follow Up on your FAFSA Application

  • Once the Financial Aid Office receives your FAFSA, you may receive an email from Mayland requesting additional documentation for the purpose of processing your financial aid. If you do not receive your letter within two weeks of submitting your FAFSA, please contact the Financial Aid Department to check on the status of your aid.
  • To avoid a potentially costly delay in processing, please respond promptly to all communication from the Financial Aid Department.

Scholarships and Additional Financial Assistance

  • Please be sure to periodically review our Scholarships and Financial Assistance web page for additional financial aid opportunities. The FAFSA application will help you apply for Federal and NC grants, but we definitely have other opportunities that can help supplement any financial aid received through the FAFSA.

Submit Transcripts

Please be sure you have requested official copies of your high school, high school equivalency and other post secondary education OFFICIAL transcripts to be sent to MCC. Financial Aid required official transcripts for financial aid processing so if we do not have these, your financial aid may be delayed.

Using Electronic Process for Financial Aid Notifications

Occasionally, Mayland Community College will communicate with students by way of campus email or a personal email address that is provided by the student. No action is necessary for a student to opt-in to receive email communication. However, students who prefer to receive only paper communication from the Financial Aid must complete the Email Opt-Out form (available upon request).

The type of notification to be provided through email could be (but is not limited to) information concerning Satisfactory Academic Progress, Financial Aid Appeal decisions, and requests for financial aid documents needed for processing.
