BUSINESS CLASSES FOR ARTISTS

The Small Business Center and Toe River Arts Council (TRAC) are working together to offer seminars that will enable you to build and grow your creative business. Come to downtown Spruce Pine at the beautiful facilities of the TRAC Art Resource Center and learn the business side of art. Classes are geared to artists but open to anyone. Class One: Business Building Tips from a Local Master Potter (2 Hours)
Established local artists, Jon Ellenbogen and Rebecca Plummer have been successfully operating “The Barking Spider Pottery” in Penland for over 40 years. In this class, explore topics such as establishing credibility, record keeping, tax considerations, insurance strategies, business practices, operating a co-operative gallery, creating your own crafts show, and much more!

Class Two: Marketing Your Art (2 Hours)
From the Asheville River Arts District, successful studio owner and professional artist, Matt Tommey, is well known for creating beautiful handmade baskets. In this seminar, Matt will share marketing techniques that will create new customers and build sales.

Class Three: Legal Considerations for Artists(2 Hours) 
Attorney PW Glidewell will discuss common small business legal issues and ways to manage them in order to reduce your chances for litigation. This seminar will help artists gain awareness of potential risks when dealing customers, navigating contracts, and much more!

Class Four: Artist Bookkeeping Basics (2 Hours)
