Sawmilling 101 (12 Hours)

Learn to select trees and logs for milling, operate small portable mills, stack and dry lumber, secondary processing options and potential sale or use outcomes. This course will touch on the value of standing timber, the economics of operating portable sawmills, recommended materials handling equipment, and give a broad overview of the current market for milled wood and the grading process. The class will involve both classroom and hands-on activities: students will participate in milling activities to the best of their abilities, requiring some personal safety equipment, and the signing of a liability waiver.
