GED® Preparation / High School Equivalency

Pre-College Programs offer free classes to help students in preparing for high school equivalency testing (GED® or HiSET®). Students who successfully complete one of the approved test batteries earn the North Carolina High School Equivalency Diploma, allowing them to enter college, pursue further training, or obtain employment.

Free classes are offered at our Learning Labs in Avery, Mitchell, and Yancey counties, providing instruction in reading, writing, and math skills to help prepare for the tests. Classes are available to adults age 18 and above or for students as young as 16 with notarized documentation from parents and public/private/home school officials. Some College Prep options may be available through our Fast Track Online Class.

New student registration happens monthly. Call the Learning Lab most convenient for you to find out the next date and time.
