Presented by The North Carolina Arboretum, Outdoor Wonders and Learning (OWL) is an Environmental Education-based curriculum guide written and designed to match North Carolina Essential Standards for elementary grades. It focuses on Science but also meets Math, Social Studies, and English-Language Arts when applicable. During the workshop, participants will experience OWL activities and learn more about how they work on their own, or as part of a larger lesson.
This workshop also spends time on creating programs and lessons using a Learning Cycle method and provides an opportunity for participants to update an old favorite, or create a whole new one! Educators gain skills and resources to facilitate engaging, inquiry-based lessons that meet MC Essential Standards and develop comfort with science and nature.
The OWL Workshop is eligible for 10 hours toward Criteria I or 3 for the North Carolina Environmental Certification program or 1.0 CEUs for Teacher Licensure.
Registration closes on March 1st (in order to provide time for participants to complete pre-work prior to the first live call).
