For ages 12-18. Discover the night sky in a whole new way in this introductory astronomy class. Topics will include astronomy facts and concepts including our solar system planets and moons, star formation, galaxies, nebula, star clusters, light speed and distance, light pollution, night sky observing and more. The class will consist of two classroom sessions at the Yancey Learning Center and a night at the Bare Dark Sky Observatory. In addition, while at the Observatory students will receive hands-on telescope alignment and night sky object location instructions on both the 34′ mirrored Newtonian telescope and the 12″ mirrored Meade planetary telescope. Saturn, Jupiter, and the Milky Way will be in full view during this time. Note: One parent or adult guardian is required to attend the night-time portion of the class at the Bare Dark Sky Observatory for an additional fee of $15. The class has a minimum and maximum enrollment so sign up early to ensure you don’t miss out on this exciting opportunity.
