Certified Coding Associate (CCA) (138 Hours)

The Certified Coding Associate (CCA) course provides foundational knowledge and practical skills needed for individuals to begin a career in medical coding.  This class covers key concepts in health information management, medical terminology, anatomy and physiology, and coding systems such as such as ICD-10-CM, CPT, and HCPCS.  Students will learn to interpret patient medical records and assign accurate codes for medical diagnoses and procedures, which are essential for billing and healthcare documentation. Throughout the course, participants will engage in hands-on exercises and case studies to practice coding scenarios.  Instructors will guide students through the ethical considerations and compliance standards in the healthcare industry, preparing them to successfully sit for the CCA certification exam.

Admissions Requirements:

  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Provide proof of high school completion (transcripts, diploma, or copy of completion of GED requirements)
  • Demonstrate reading proficiency either by college transcripts, computerized placement test, or a CASAS reading test

  • Basic medical terminology as needed for assigning appropriate medical codes.
  • Basic anatomy.
  • Recognition of medical terms and commonly used abbreviations in medical coding
  • Coding guidelines.
