Advanced EMT (AEMT)

Designed to train the EMT-Basic to become an Advanced Emergency Medical Technician. This course teaches the students to perform more advanced medical treatment of patients. These topics include Advanced Airway Management, Advanced Patient Assessment, Cardiovascular emergencies, IV therapy, Pharmacology, and much more. Advanced EMT’s can work in private and public business, ground ambulance services, and in some fire departments. Successful completion of this course allows the student to take the North Carolina Advanced EMT Exam.

Training Includes:

  • Legal aspects of patient care
  • Advanced patient assessment
  • Advanced airway management
  • Advanced Cardiac emergency treatment
  • IV Therapy
  • Oxygen and drug administration
  • Shock
  • Skull, spine, and chest injuries
  • Neonatal and pediatric emergencies
  • Transferring patients to medical facilities

Admissions Requirements:

  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • High school diploma or high school equivalency. If an institution is presented with documents that the Institution Advisors, Counselors, or Registrar will accept as an equivalent (Home School, International schooling, etc.) then there must be some form of documentation placed into the student’s file acknowledging  acceptance of same
  • Reading and math assessment test (CASAS) and score reading comprehension and math skills at the post-secondary level. Students producing an official college transcript illustration successful completion  of a college-level English and/or Math course are exempt from the reading and/or math assessment
  • Possession of a valid and active North Carolina EMT Credential, MREMT or other states EMS Credential
  • Current credential in AHA Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers
  • Immunization records
  • Mandatory attendance of orientation class (TBA)
  • Clinical sites require background checks and drug screening

Cost of Class:

  • Registration $180 (may be waived with appropriate documentation)
  • Text Book and workbook: $200 (subject to change)
  • Liability Insurance (required): $13
  • Cost of CPR card ($5)
  • Accident insurance for the individual student: $1.20

  • Drug screening and background check for clinical site: $58
  • Certification exam: $68
  • Clinical Shirts: $35
  • FISDAP: $150
