MCC Placement Test

About the Test:

  • The MCC placement test (NCDAP) provides diagnostic information on a student’s skill level in Reading, English, Writing, and Mathematics and places them according to the state cut-scores. These scores will indicate if a student is college-ready or if the student will need developmental classes designed to build the student’s skills. Credits for developmental courses do not count toward the required number of credit hours for graduation.
  • A student must meet with an Admissions/Retention Advisor prior to scheduling a placement test.  Students should bring transcripts: high school/equivalancy as well as any post-secondary transcripts for evaluation and proper scheduling.
  • The test is computerized.
  • The test is untimed and divided into short sections (with the exception of the essay, it has a two hour limit).
  • Students take the test in two sessions to avoid test fatigue. Taking it two separate days is suggested, but a student may do two sessions in one day.
  • All sections, except the essay, are multiple choice.
  • The test sections include:
    • Reading Comprehension
    • Revising/Editing Writing
    • Essay
    • Mathematics, which is divided into six sections:
      • DMA 010 Operations and Integers
      • DMA 020 Fractions and Decimals
      • DMA 030 Proportions/Ratios/Rates/Percents
      • DMA 040 Expressions, Linear Equations, Linear Inequalities
      • DMA 050 Graphs and Equations of Lines
      • DMA 060 Polynomials and Quadratic Applications.
  • A student with a disability may request testing accommodations for the MCC placement test. He/she must present documentation to the Counseling Center and a counselor will determine if the accommodations are reasonable.
