S.O.A.R. (Support Options for Achievement and Retention) is a Student Support Services Program funded by the U. S. Department of Education. The primary purpose of the S.O.A.R. Program is to provide the academic support necessary to help students remain in school and successfully complete their educational goals.

We are located on the ground floor of Gwaltney Hall, Mayland’s main building in Spruce Pine (map).

SOAR Program Requirements
Not every student qualifies for admission into the SOAR Program. You can learn about the requirements here.
SOAR Handbook
The SOAR Program has a Handbook for students that explains the program, its services and requirements.
A downloadable version of the Handbook is available. It is in the Adobe Acrobat PDF format (requires the FREE Adobe Acrobat Reader, which can be downloaded here).
When you open the Handbook in Acrobat Reader, click the "bookmarks" tab to see a table of contents that will allow you to skip to sections you want to read.
The Handbook can also be printed from Acrobat Reader.

You can fill out page one of the form inside the Adobe Acrobat Reader (you must complete it and print it, as you cannot save the information you enter inside the form) and then print it out, fill out page 2 in your own handwriting, and turn it in to the SOAR Office.
