We encourage all students to file a financial aid application, even if they are not sure if they qualify. Here is a guide to the process of applying for various types of financial aid, including important deadlines you must meet when applying.

It's easy to apply!

Federal Financial Aid

Apply for federal financial aid online at www.fafsa.ed.gov or, visit the main campus of Mayland Community College in Spruce Pine to pick up an application at the Student Development Office [map]. The FAFSA application is self-explanatory with easy to follow step-by-step-instructions. We encourage applicants to apply by the North Carolina State deadline of March 15th. If you have questions or, technical problems while applying online with FAFSA, you can call their technical support number: 1-800-4-FED-AID (1-800-433-3243).

MCC Scholarships

Apply for Mayland Community College scholarships by downloading, printing out and filling out the MCC Scholarship application here (requires the FREE Adobe Reader, which can be downloaded here). You can also pick an application up at Mayland Community College’s Main campus at the Student Development Office on the first floor of Gwaltney Hall [map].

Complete and return to the Student Development Office by July 1st or, the last working day before July 1st for Fall scholarships and by November 1st or, the last working day before November 1st for Spring scholarships.

Work/Study Opportunities

A limited number of opportunities for students to receive a work/study grant are provided each semester. You must meet certain guidelines to qualify for work/study.

You can download the Work/Study Application Sheet here (requires the FREE Adobe Reader, which can be downloaded here). You can fill out the sheet in Acrobat Reader by clicking on the various fields and entering information into them, then print out the form and submit it to the Student Development Office on the first floor of Gwaltney Hall [map].

If you cannot get your version of Reader to allow you to enter data into the form, just print it out, fill it out by hand, and turn it in to the Student Development Office.
