We have developed a list of commonly asked questions of our admissions staff. You may be able to find an answer to your question here. If not, feel free to contact us.

Questions

How can I get an application?

  • Download the MCC Application (coming soon).
  • Request one by mail: Call MCC Admissions at extension 222 (828) 765-7351 or 1-800-4-MAYLAND
  • If you’re a senior in high school, ask your counselor for one.
  • Visit the Main Campus in Spruce Pine, the Avery Campus in Newland or the Yancey Campus in Burnsville and pick one up.

How much is the application fee?

There is no application fee.

What else do I need to do to be admitted?

  • Request a transcript from your high school or send GED scores.
  • If you’ve attended other colleges, request a transcript to be sent to Mayland.
  • Meet with an admissions counselor.
  • Take the Computerized Placement Test. (Accuplacer)

What programs does Mayland offer?

Mayland offers a variety of programs in degree, certificate and diploma forms. Links to Web pages for our programs will be available on soon, but here is a list of what we offer:

ARTS & SCIENCES COLLEGE TRANSFER PROGRAM:

Complete the two-year college transfer program and transfer to a four-year college as a junior:

How much does it cost?

Mayland Community College is committed to providing a quality education at a very affordable price. Many students qualify for grants and scholarships to assist them in paying their college expenses. We will be providing more information on financial aid options and costs to attend Mayland versus other institutions shortly.

I can’t find the course that I want listed. Where is it?

Our admissions area deals with students who are enrolling in curriculum programs that lead to a degree, diploma or certificate. However, Mayland offers many opportunities to get specialized training through courses offered by our Continuing Education department. You can get more information on Continuing Education here.
