Paying Tuition
We accept cash, check, Visa, and MasterCard for payment. Out-of-country and out-of-state checks will not be accepted. If you receive financial aid, contact the Financial Aid Office for information on how to insure that your charges are covered. Payment is expected on or before Registration Day.
Third Party Authorization: If you are sponsored by a third-party, it is your responsibility to ensure that your written authorization is received at MCC at least five (5) working days before Registration Day. If authorization letters are not received five (5) working days before Registration Day, the student is responsible for 100% payment. Failure to do so will result in you being removed from your class(es).
Withdrawals and Refunds
Tuition and fees may be refunded or credited following the guidelines established by the North Carolina Administrative Code, which is subject to revision. Consult your advisor or Student Development for the latest regulations.
- Upon request, you may receive a partial refund if you properly withdraw from the class(es) before the 10 percent point of the class(es) in question. This does NOT include fees or books.
- For contact-hour classes, ten (10) calendar days from the first day of the class(es) is the date by which refunds are determined.
- 100% refunds are made only if a class is dropped on or before Registration Day at MCC or if a class fails to materialize.
- Upon approval, students are eligible for bookstore refunds up to five (5) days after the purchase date with submission of receipt only.

Financial Aid
In this section:
Financial aid is money, or the opportunity to earn money, that you use to help pay educational expenses. It is administered through the MCC Financial Aid Office, located in Student Development. More information is available on the Financial Aid Office Website.
Types of Financial Aid
Financial aid comes in many forms:
- Scholarships and Grants may be an option, which do not have to be repaid
- Pell Grants are federal grants. To apply for the Federal Pell Grant, you must fill out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), available online here before June 1st to ensure funding for the fall in which you wish to start classes.
- MCC Foundation Scholarships are also available. Deadlines for applications are July 1st and November 15th. An application form for the scholarships is available here.
- NC Community College Grant (NCCC Grant) is offered by North Carolina. Your FAFSA application must be received by the Central Processing Office before March 15 of each year in order to be considered by a NCCC Grant.
- Part-time Employment is offered through the Federal College Work/Study Program. You must be Pell eligible to qualify.
For detailed information on the types of aid available, stop by the Financial Aid Office in the Student Development area of Gwaltney Hall.
Eligibility
Everyone who enrolls in a curriculum program at MCC should apply for financial aid. All information you provide will remain confidential. Awards are made according to federal, state and local regulations. You may pick up applications for financial aid in the Student Development area of Gwaltney Hall.
Academic Requirements
To maintain eligibility for financial aid, you must maintain satisfactory academic standards. The Federal Government now allows you to receive financial aid up to 150% of the amount of time it takes to earn a degree/diploma/certificate in your particular program as stated in the MCC Catalog. For example, full-time students majoring in a curriculum established as 68 credit hours may receive financial aid for up to 102 credit hours to complete the program, providing the academic progress standards stated in the MCC Catalog are met. When you reenter college or change majors, prior credits applying to the current major will be calculated in the required 150% time frame. You must also successfully complete 66% of attempted credit hours in order to meet satisfactory academic requirements.
