This course introduces the fundamentals of standard written English. Emphasis is placed on effective word choice, recognition of sentences and sentence parts, and basic usage. Upon completion, students should be able to generate sentences that clearly express ideas. This course does not satisfy the developmental reading and writing prerequisite for ENG 111 or ENG 111A.

This course introduces the writing process and stresses effective sentences. Emphasis is placed on applying the conventions of written English, reflecting standard usage and mechanics in structuring a variety of sentences. Upon completion, students should be able to write correct sentences and a unified, coherent paragraph. This course does not satisfy the developmental reading and writing prerequisite for ENG 111 or ENG 111A.

This course provides practice in the writing process and stresses effective paragraphs. Emphasis is placed on learning and applying the conventions of standard written English in developing paragraphs within the essay. Upon completion, students should be able to compose a variety of paragraphs and a unified, coherent essay. This course satisfies the developmental writing requirement for ENG 111 or ENG 111A.

This writing lab is designed to practice the skills introduced in ENG 090. Emphasis is placed on learning and applying the conventions of standard written English in developing paragraphs within the essay. Upon completion, students should be able to compose a variety of paragraphs and a unified, coherent essay.

This course is designed to enhance reading and writing skills for the workplace. Emphasis is placed on technical reading, job-related vocabulary, sentence writing, punctuation, and spelling. Upon completion, students should be able to identify main ideas with supporting details and produce mechanically correct short writings appropriate to the workplace. This is a diploma-level course.

This course is the required first course in a series of two designed to develop the ability to produce clear expository prose. Emphasis is placed on the writing process including audience analysis, topic selection, thesis support and development, editing, and revision. Upon completion, students should be able to produce unified, coherent, well-developed essays using standard written English. This course has been approved to satisfy the Comprehensive Articulation Agreement general education core requirement in English composition.

This course, the second in a series of two, introduces research techniques, documentation styles, and argumentative strategies. Emphasis is placed on analyzing data and incorporating research findings into documented argumentative essays and research projects. Upon completion, students should be able to summarize, paraphrase, interpret, and synthesize information from primary and secondary sources using standard research format and style. This course has been approved to satisfy the Comprehensive Articulation Agreement general education core requirement in English composition.

This course, the second in a series of two, expands the concepts developed in ENG 111 by focusing on writing that involves literature-based research and documentation. Emphasis is placed on critical reading and thinking and the analysis and interpretation of prose, poetry, and drama: plot, characterization, theme, cultural context, etc. Upon completion, students should be able to construct mechanically-sound, documented essays and research papers that analyze and respond to literary works. This course has been approved to satisfy the Comprehensive Articulation Agreement general education core requirement in English composition.

This course, the second in a series of two, is designed to teach professional communication skills. Emphasis is placed on research, listening, critical reading and thinking, analysis, interpretation, and design used in oral and written presentations. Upon completion, students should be able to work individually and collaboratively to produce well-designed business and professional written and oral presentations. This course introduces the basic principles of oral communication in both small group and public settings. Emphasis is placed on the components of the communication process, group decision-making, and public address. Upon completion, students should be able to demonstrate the principles of effective oral communication in small group and public settings.

This course, the second in a series of two, introduces layout and design of technical reports used in business and industry. Emphasis is placed on audience analysis, data collection and analysis, technical writing style and organization, oral presentation of technical data, and the appropriate use of graphics in written and oral presentations. Upon completion, students should be able to produce written and oral reports using a variety of technical communication models.

This course is designed to provide students with the opportunity to practice the art of creative writing. Emphasis is placed on writing, fiction, poetry, and sketches. Upon completion, students should be able to craft and critique their own writing and critique the writing of others. This course is designed as a workshop approach for advancing imaginative and literary skills. Emphasis is placed on the discussion of style, techniques, and challenges for first publications.
