Join our Community of Contributors for the 2015 Gateways edition!

Gateways is the creative journal of Mayland Community College. We welcome submissions from students, community members, faculty and staff. Our purpose is to celebrate and showcase the creative work of
our Mayland family.

Gateways Journal 2015

Community is a critical part of where and who we are as Mayland Community College. We belong to a place and a culture in which ties between people, families, and communities are complex and deeply woven. As a college, we are a community of scholars, learners together seeking to help one another and thus, ourselves as we all grow in knowledge and experience.

Here in Gateways, we are a community of artists whose writing and visual art come together to create something unique and beautiful. In our 2015 edition, we invite you to join this community, with poetry, prose, photography and more, all celebrating community. There are many kinds of community, both common and unexpected, and we hope to see a vast array of possible interpretations and adaptations of this theme for the next collection.

Guidelines:

All pieces should be original and, unless specifically solicited, may not include previously published work. Simultaneous submissions are acceptable, but you must notify us immediately if your work is accepted elsewhere.

For text entries it should be saved as a Microsoft Word document in 12 point font with single spacing and no tabbed lines or other unusual spacing other than needed for poetry.

For photographs and artwork, submissions must use JPEG , at least 300dpi. Please note: Photographs will be printed in black and white. Take care in selecting photographs that will reprint well in black and white. Vertical photos also work best for the layout of the book.

All Submissions:
Please include a cover letter or message with the author’s name, phone number, and email address, and type and title(s) of submissions, along with the completed submission form. Make sure your cover letter includes the title(s) of your submission.

All published work becomes the property of Mayland Community College. All contributors will receive two complimentary copies of Gateways.

All submissions must be received by the deadline of October 31, 2014. Submissions will be juried for entry into the 2015 edition of the Gateways publication. Notification regarding inclusion will be sent via email.

You may either mail or email submissions.

Mail Submissions:
Hard copy submissions must be accompanied by a SASE (self-addressed, stamped envelope) if you wish to have your work returned.
