MCC Scholarship Program

Through the MCC Scholarship Program, the Mayland Community College Foundation seeks to provide financial assistance to students who otherwise would not be able to continue their education. This program offers many scholarship opportunities to Mayland students through the completion of a single scholarship application.

2010 - 2011 MAYLAND SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATION

The 2010-2011 MCC Scholarship application will be available for students on April 1. Applications will be available in the Student Development Department. You may also print the 2010 - 2011 application here after April 1.  The deadline for Fall 2010 is July 1, 2010 and the deadline for Spring 2011 is October 15, 2010.  The deadline for Summer 2011 is March 18, 2011.

MCC SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM WORKSHOP NOW AVAILABLE!!!

Need help completing your MCC Scholarship application?  Want to make sure your application "stands out in the crowd?" Mayland now offers a scholarship workshop to help applicants navigate their way through the scholarship process! This workshop will be offered twice before each scholarship period, giving applicants two different opportunities to attend. But if neither day works for you, the same information is available in an online workshop enititled, "Scholarship Application Help" Click here to view the scholarship video.

Golden Leaf Scholarship

The Fall 2010 application period for this scholarship is currently closed. The Spring 2011 application period will open soon. Check this site again for dates.

The Golden LEAF Scholarship for community college students is funded through a grant from the Golden LEAF Foundation. This program provides grants of up to $750 per semester, including the summer semester, for curriculum degree seeking students to be applied toward tuition, registration fees, books and other educationally related expenses. This program also provides grants of up to $250.00 per semester for occupational education students.

To be eligible, a community college student must:

  • Show financial need based on FAFSA information (degree seeking students)
  • Show financial need based on 2009 Federal taxes (occupational education students)
  • Be enrolled at least half-time (degree seeking students)
  • Show academic potential

This scholarship is made available to students three times per year in the fall, spring and summer. Students must submit a new application for each scholarship period.

For degree seeking students, completed applications must be submitted along with a LEO copy of student's transcript to Martha Huskins by 12:00pm on the day of the deadline.

For occupational education students, completed applications must be submitted along with a copy of student's 2009 Federal tax return.

 

Coins for College Scholarship

The 2010-2011 application period for this scholarship is now closed.

Coins for College was started by the Foundation of Mayland Community College for the purpose of increasing student scholarship opportunities at Mayland Community College. This scholarship is funded primarily through student donations from various fundraising events such as a college coin drive, various SGA events, Spring and Fall Fling activity booths and Mayland's Perfect Christmas Tree Contest.

Eligibility criteria for this scholarship:

  • Student must be enrolled for a minimum of six credit hours
  • Student must be seeking to complete a two-year degree or diploma program
  • Student must have completed at least one semester at Mayland
  • Student must be enrolled in field of study or transfer courses (not doing pre-major work or GOT)
  • Student must have a minimum 2.0 GPA

Applications are available here, or from the Financial Aid Department located in Gwaltney Hall.

Students should complete the application and return it, along with a LEO copy  of transcript to Martha Huskins in Room 139 of Gwaltney Hall by no later than 5:00pm on the deadline date.

 

Midway Honors Scholars Program of East Tennessee State University

Application deadline - March 15, 2011

Are you an exceptional student who has already started your degree studies? Are you planning to transfer to ETSU after graduating from Mayland? Do you maintain a minimum 3.5 GPA? Then the Midway Honors Scholars Program might be the perfect fit for you! 

Midway is your opportunity to pursue an honors-enriched academic experience in you field of study, interact with exceptional faculty and other highly-motivated students, and obtain support, both personal and financial, to help you achieve your academic goals.

Eligibility criteria for this program:

  • Apply to ETSU and then complete a separate application to the Midway Honors Scholars Program
  • Have an Associate degree or at least 30 earned credit hours beyond high school graduation
  • Show evidence of community and leadership involvement
  • Be committed to completing a 4 year degree

T.E.A.C.H. Early Childhood Project Scholarships

The T.E.A.C.H. Early Childhood Project is a statewide program designed to provide sequenced educational scholarship opportunities for child care center teachers, directors and family child care home providers who work in regular settings. The T.E.A.C.H. Early Childhood Project offers scholarships to study Early Childhood Education at all 58 community colleges across North Carolina, as well as scholarships at 22 bachelor degree granting universities. Child care providers can contract for a minimum of one class to earn the North Carolina Early Childhood Administration Credential, a minimum of two classes to earn the North Carolina Early Childhood Credential, or can work toward a Certificate, Diploma, Associate or Bachelor Degree in Early Childhood Education. The scholarship programs currently available are described below.

North Carolina Early Childhood Credential Scholarship Program

This program offers scholarships to child care providers who wish to earn their North Carolina Early Childhood Credential.  The credential can be earned by successfully completed two specified entry level courses at the community college. Scholarships help pay tuition, books and travel. Recipients receive a $100 bonus upon receipt of their credential.

Eligibility criteria for this program:

  • Must work a minimum number of hours per week in a NC Division of Child Development licensed or registered child care program
  • Must have sponsorship of employing child care program
  • Must earn less than $15.00 per hour (however, partial scholarships may be available for providers earning just over the maximum)

Early Childhood Associate Degree Scholarship Program

Child care providers receive scholarships through this program to work toward a Certificate, Diploma or Associate degree in Early Childhood Education at the community college. Center-based teachers and family child care providers agree to take a minimum of 9 credit hours per year and receive paid release time. Center directors contract to take a minimum of 12 credit hours per year. In addition to helping with tuition, all scholarship recipients receive help meeting the costs of books and travel, and are given paid release time if working directly with children. Upon successful completion, scholarship recipients receive either a 4% - 5% raise or a $300 - $700 bonus. Scholarship recipients agree to remain employed in their sponsoring child care program or continue to operate their family child care home for an additional year.

Eligibility criteria for this program:

  • Must be employed full time in a NC Division of Child Development licensed or registered child care program
  • Must have sponsorship of employing child care program
