Welding - MCC Certification (96 Hours)

This course will teach three major processes; SMAW, GMAW, GTAW (stick, mig, and tig welding) and cutting processes. Mountain Wood Crafts (24 Hours)

Build your own business, or simply enjoy making one-of-a-kind crafts. This course will guide you through creating a variety of handmade wood crafts with a rustic mountain theme. Natural elements such as tree bark, twigs, and stone are combined to create unique pieces. Designs will be provided by the instructor. This class will go beyond the roadside craft-stand concept. Wood-Fired Oven Building (15 Hours) NEW!

Join us in a hands-on masonry class while constructing an outdoor wood-fired masonry oven. In the process of building the oven, essential and specialized masonry techniques and terms will be taught. The class will briefly cover design and history of masonry ovens and quickly proceed to actual construction. When the oven is complete, we will fire it and bake bread and pizzas. After completion of this class, you will be prepared to build your own oven, tackle other masonry projects with confidence, or consider pursuing masonry as an occupation. No experience is required. Basic Woodworking (24 Hours)


Designed for people with little or no woodworking experience, this 8-week class begins by covering the safe use of basic power tools and the essential properties of wood. Learn and practice fundamental woodworking techniques by making a small project. The focus of this class is primarily on the use of power tools, although you will get some practice using chisels. Please bring a 16' tape measure, utility knife, pencil and paper. Bring safety glasses/ear protection if you have them. Preregistration is required.

Cake Decorating Basics (22.5 Hours)

Learn to bake and shape cakes, plus make buttercream icing, then use tools such as bags, couplers, and tips to decorate. Techniques will include creating leaves, pompom flowers, piping gel pattern transfer, as well as various border and flower designs and dimensional decorating. A supply list is given to students at the first meeting of class. Cakes will be baked at home and brought to class for decorating.

Certified Nursing Assistant I (160 Hours)

This state-required course for those wishing to become a CNA consists of classroom work, lab, and clinical rotations. At the end of the course a separate State approved agency administers the competency testing for a fee of $101. Six days of clinical rotation will be scheduled starting as early as 6:30am. Some Saturday class and lab participation may also be required. Random drug screening and criminal background checks may be required by the clinical sites. Hours could vary slightly depending upon instructional need. Students in this class may be eligible for Project Skill-Up scholarship funds, click here for more information.

Phlebotomy (210 Hours)

Program content includes; communication skills when working with patients, selection of venipuncture sites, care of blood specimens, record keeping, and equipment maintenance. High school diploma or GED is required. You must be at least 18 years of age. Ten days of clinical rotations will be scheduled in addition to dates for the classes listed below. Intro to Herbal Medicine (12 Hours)

Feed your interest in natural medicine and self-care; and learn basic information about herbal medicine. This class includes basic botany, parts of plants used, and use of common and uncommon herbs in the treatment of familiar health issues. Begin learning how to make your own medicines. Gathering, harvesting, and storing of herbs and making tinctures, oils, and salves will be discussed. Instructor Karen Senechal has twenty years experience in using herbs for medicines and experience using homeopathy - in personal use, primary care practice, midwifery, and with animals. The suggested textbook is David Hoffmann's The New Holistic Herbal, can be ordered online. Any edition is fine. No class 5/28 & 6/4.

Qi Gong (pronounced chee GUNG) is a relaxing and energizing form of physical movement for increased health and well-being. Dao Yin Therapeutic Qi Gong (7.5 Hours) NEW!

Dao Yin is a form of energy enlivening exercise practiced to maintain wellbeing or to help overcome a disease symptom. This course will introduce the basic principles of Qi Gong through the Dao Yin exercises for health maintenance. Emphasis will be placed on the 3 features of Qi Gong practice: breathing, awareness, and postural alignment. Shiitake Mushrooms: Celebrate Spring! (4 Hours) NEW!

Studies have shown that eating shiitake mushrooms has health benefits. In this hands-on class you will learn how to cultivate your own edible shiitake mushrooms by using correct inoculation techniques and growing conditions. You will receive a sawdust spore to inoculate your own mushroom log. Learn how to care for your logs after inoculating and how and when to harvest. Beginning Bead & Pendant Making (12 Hours) NEW!

Learn the fundamentals of sculpting glass into beads, pendants and other jewelry. Glass jewelry can easily be made at home with minimal investment of money and space, and can be a good source of income. Students will learn techniques using Moretti and borosilicate glass, and necessary information about the equipment and supplies needed to start sculpting glass at home.Classes take place off campus in a fully equipped flameworking studio. An optional field trip to the glass blowing supply store in Swannanoa will be available. Instructor Miles Henry produces both artistic and scientific flameworked glass in his studio in Burnsville.
