Customized Industry Training

Customized Training is a special program offered through Mayland Community College for our communities' existing manufacturers. Customized training uses individualized needs assessments and consultation to design and implement targeted, customized training for incumbent workers whose jobs are changing because of technological or process advances.

Customized Training focuses on:

The Customized Training program counts geographic proximity as a strength. Training is developed jointly by the community college and the participating industry. This ensures that the program hits the mark; that it addresses real training needs and people are better equipped to do their jobs.
We know that in training one size does not fit all. That's why our programs work so well for so many people. Each one is tailor-made and we will be glad to craft one for your company.

If you are considering a new site for your company or expansion of an existing facility, remember the North Carolina Community College System was first in the nation to offer customized training to new and expanding industries. We have been doing it for about 50 years now and we help keep North Carolina among the nation's leaders for placement of new industry.

We know how to grow your company. It requires careful nurturing and attention to detail. Lucky for you those are two of our many strengths of the customized training program. In North Carolina, we provide a systematic needs analysis to develop training objectives that are linked to your company's key strategic and operational goals.

It is easy to become eligible for Customized Training. If you create 12 or more jobs in one community in one year, your company may qualify for customized training assistance from the North Carolina Community College System. The level of assistance is determined by the total number of new jobs created, their skill and wage levels, and the total amount of capital investment.
We have a specific process for developing a customized training program for your company. It's one of many ways we say "Welcome to North Carolina." It's also an important step in the development of your world-class workforce.

Services

Pre-Employment Assistance
North Carolina's JobLink Career Centers make our state a pacesetter on recruitment and job placement services. Companies benefit from a strong, internet-based job applicant listing system to screen applicants, as well as a 100-day, no fault guarantee against unemployment insurance taxes for referred employees who are terminated due to an inability to perform their jobs.
Job analysis assistance is another important resource available to industries for help in determining appropriate employee selection and testing instruments.

Qualified Instructors
A statewide network of skilled professionals provides industry-based instruction in a variety of technologies and disciplines. Whether it's CNC programming, leadership training, Six Sigma, Lean Manufacturing, or other quality initiatives, qualified instructors offer valuable assistance in meeting specific job-training requirements.
Because the best instructor for a particular training course may be a company representative, our program can offset the costs of instructor wages, "train-the-trainer" expenses, and travel for a negotiated number of company employees who provide start-up training.

Facilities and Equipment
A company may use facilities at the local community college if it is not prepared for onsite training. Our program also can assume the costs of locally transporting training equipment to and from the training facility. Through North Carolina's "Information Highway," companies can take advantage of real-time interactive training.

Supplies and Materials
Support to new and expanding companies includes the costs of training supplies and materials necessary to deliver effective instruction. Depending on the size and scope of a particular training project, the program will develop customized training materials that may include:

On-Going Support
Through the state's community college system, on-going support is provided through state-subsidized, affordable training in more than 1,400 courses.

Tax Credits
There may be state or federal tax credits available for employers who create new jobs. Your Regional Customized Training Director will provide you with information about your eligibility.
