Notary Public
Become a Notary Public in this class which prepares students for the required North Carolina test. To become a Notary, you must be at least 18 years of age, have a high school diploma or GED, and pass the test given at the end of class.

Knitting
This class is for anyone who has ever wanted to knit, understand knitting instructions, and make beautiful, practical items. Students wil learn to knit by creating a sampler and then will continue with a pair of mittens. Students completing the course will be able to follow patterns for sweaters, vests, hats and more. The instructor, Elke Spirakis, has been featured on HGTV.

Have you always wanted to play banjo, but never got around to actually getting started? Instructor Don Harmon has over 30 years experience teaching Earl Scruggs 3-finger style banjo picking. His students have won first place awards in the Virginia Music Association annual events.

Conversational Spanish
If you want to speak Spanish TODAY, then forget trying to learn Spannish grammar. It makes more sense to start with real-world Spanish that you can use right away. This class assumes no knowledge of Spanish. You will learn to hold a basic conversation with a native speaker by learning straightforward words and phrases. Low stress approach. Focus is on acquiring basic conversational skills, not grammar and sentence structure.

Ever had a yen to create your own painting? This class is designed for beginners or anyone who might have been intimidated by the process. Class members are guided through the steps and at the end of class students have a painting that will last a lifetime and the confidence to do it again and again. Glassblowing
At over 2000 degrees, you can bet that this is the HOTTEST class in town! In this basic class, taught by Loretta Forde, students will learn all the basic skills necessary to make their own terrific paperweight and hand blown glass. Each student will be fiven plenty of encouragement and attention. Forde has been teaching glassblowing since 1991. No experience needed, but patience is required. Class size is limited to ensure that each student will receive individual attention.

Handgun: Concealed Carry
Take your first step to a concealed-carry handgun permit. This class provides the training and certificate needed to apply for the permit at any Sheriff's Department in NC. You must be at least 21 and a NC resident. To attend this class, you cannot have been convicted of any felonies or misdemeanor violent crimes. Pre-registration and pre-payment required.

Parkway Playhouse Youth Theatre Summer Camp
A great summer program for students between the ages of 8 & 15. The program, offered by MCC Yancey Campus, the Parkway Playhouse, and TRAC, will be led by professional actors Guerin Piercy and Jordan Danz, both members of the Parkway Playhouse's prfessional acting company. Students will have an intensive hands-on experience with all of the fundamentals associated with creating a theatrical production. In addition, they will have the chance to perform the production on stage at the Parkway. Students will also see the Parkway Playhouse's production of THE SOUND OF MUSIC.

Phlebotomy
Program content includes communication skills when working with patients, selection of venipuncture sites, care of blood specimens, record keeping and equipment maintenance. Upon successful completion, you will recieve a certificate and be prepared to sit for a national examination after 6 months of full time experience or one year part time. High school diploma or GED ids required. You must be at least 18 years of age. Ten days of clinical rotations and six Saturday labs will be scheduled in addition to dates listed below.

Certified Nursing Assistant I
This is the state required course for those wishing to become a Certified Nursing Assistant. It consists of classroom work, lab, clinical rotations and an examination. A CPR certification is included. At the conclusion of the course a separate State approved agency does the competency testing for a fee of $92. Seven days of clinical rotation (8 hours each) will be scheduled in addition to the dates listed below. Clinical schedules are based on the availability of clinical site. This may include weekday or week-end (Sa,Su) hours starting as early as 6:30am.

Certified Nursing Assistant II
This class builds on existing CNA I skills. To be eligible for the class, each student must be currently listed with DFS with no allegations or findings of abuse, neglect or inappropriate conduct. The student must also show proof of high school diploma or GED. In addition to the dates listed below, there will be 8 clinical days to be scheduled in Asheville. If student cannot drive to Asheville should not sign up for the class. Clinical days will be 10 hour days starting at 7AM and will include week day and week end days. Pre-registration and pre-payment is required.

EMT to Paramedic
This will be 596 classroom hours and a total of at least 500 clinical hours. Clinical hours will be scheduled by the coordinator and will be on weekends (Saturdays and Sundays) and weekdays, hours to vary according to clinical site availability. The students must have: High School Diploma or GED; be an EMT; CPR certified;have completed college level Reading, English and Math classes, or take the ASSET or COMPASS test and make an acceptable score. Students will need to present NCDL, SS, a certified criminal background check, and immunizations to include proof of TB within past 6 months, TD within 10 years, HEP B immunizations, Proof of 2 MMR's or a titer. Pre-registration and pre-payment required.
