Founders’ Day is a celebration during which Mayland Community College honors our Board of Trustee Award winners, President’s Award recipients, and Founder’s Award Recipients. These awards are given to people who have made a significant impact in Mitchell, Avery, and Yancey counties and on Mayland Community College as a whole.
Banner Elk Open House

Mayland Community College acquired the PineBridge Inn and Coliseum in 2015 with the intention of expanding College facilities and providing the community with a public event space and other services. Architects from LaBella Associates are working hard to create a unique space that meets the College’s specific needs.
Banner Elk Facility
Mayland Community College has a new classroom for continuing education courses at the Historic School in Banner Elk, with a second classroom under construction. These newly renovated classrooms are versatile to provide space for art classes, technology classes, and much more. There have already been 5 courses held during Spring 2016
Bare Dark Sky Observatory
The Bare Dark Sky Observatory, named for Warren and Larissa Bare, is located at the EnergyXchange in Yancey County. The observatory will allow community members and opportunity to experience the wonders of the universe, while providing Astronomy students with hands-on learning.
