The Law Enforcement Training Center (LETC) provides in-service training and recertification opportunities for law enforcement officers. This page features upcoming training opportunities for law enforcement officers in the near future.

Cost

The cost for in-service training courses is FREE for sworn law enforcement officers.

2006 Scheduled Classes - Updated

The following classes are being offered in 2006 at the LETC:

Mandatory 24-Hour In-Service Training
Dates offered are listed below (Day & Night Sessions) (24 hours)
All Classes: 0800-1700
The mandatory 24-hour in-service law enforcement training for officers will be will be applicable for the year 2006 and is required to be completed by December 1, 2006. This training is required for all law enforcement officers who are certified by the North Carolina Criminal Justice Education Training and Standards Commission. The classes required include the following:

  • Ethics (2 hours)
  • Juvenile Minority Sensitivity Training (2 hours)
  • Meth Investigation (4 hours)
  • Legal Update (4 hours)
  • Wellness & Stress Awareness (4 hours)
  • Law Enforcement Driver Training (8 hours)

The mandatory classes will be held on the following dates in the different locations from 8:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m. at the listed locations:

DAY ONE AND DAY TWO CLASSES

  • June 21-22, 2006 - MCC Avery Campus, Newland
  • July 17-18, 2006 - MCC Main Campus, Spruce Pine
  • July 24-25, 2006 - MCC Yancey Campus, Burnsville

DAY THREE CLASSES

All day three classes will be held on the MCC Main Campus in Spruce Pine.

  • June 24, 2006
  • July 22, 2006
  • August 5, 2006

PLEASE NOTE: Firearms will be done as usual. Each department will decide how and when their firearms are to be held.

The mandatory classes will be held on the following dates at the MCC Main Campus from 6:00-10:00 PM:

  • October 9, 2006 - Ethical Awareness & Juvenile Minority Sensitivity
  • October 10, 2006 - Meth Investigation
  • October 11, 2006 - Legal Update
  • October 12, 2006 - Wellness & Stress Awareness
  • October 13, 2006 - LE Driver Training - Bookwork

Radar Re-Certification
October 3-4, 2006 (16 hours)
0800-1700
This is a re-certification course for law enforcement officers who are currently certified to use radar in speed measurement.
MCC Main Campus

Emotional Survival for Law Enforcement Officers
and Their Families

The speaker for this class is Dr. Kevin M. Gilmartin. He is a behavioral scientist specializing in law enforcement-related issues. Dr. Gilmartin spent twenty years working in law enforcement in Tucson, Arizona. He presently maintains a consulting relationshi pwith public safety and law enforcement agencies nationally in the U.S. and Canada. He is guest instructor at the FBI Academy's Law Enforcement Executive Development Institute.
