The Basic Skills Program serves Mitchell County with GED, College Preparation, ESL, and Compensatory Education classes at various locations, including the Mayland Community College Main Campus, located on U.S. Highway 19-E near Spruce Pine at the Avery/Mitchell County line [map].

The current Mitchell County class schedule is as follows:

GED Studies

An “open” class, allowing each student to set his or her own attendance schedule at any time during operation hours (for example, attending for an hour or two after work as the student’s schedule allows).
