Prepare for College Placement Tests in Mayland’s Learning Lab

“I knew I wanted to go back to college, but there was one roadblock stopping me—English grammar!”  said Paula McClellan with her beautiful warm smile—“I graduated from Avery High School, and I’ve always enjoyed learning new things, but reading and English grammar were always challenges for me.”
Mother of 2 grown children and proud grandmother to Korie, age 7; Grayson, 3; and Kylie, 4 months, Paula knew in her heart that she was destined to attend college and find a new and rewarding career.  At the age of 40, she was ready to do whatever it took to tackle and conquer the English grammar she had feared for so long.
In order to pass the college placement exam with scores high enough to enroll in college level classes, Paula knew she would have to receive some strong academic tutoring. When Mayland Community College staff had visited Paula’s workplace (Ethan Allen) before that plant’s shutdown, they shared exciting information about Mayland’s Learning Lab where adult students could prepare to earn stronger placement test scores.  Polishing her skills in the Lab could help Paula earn an English grammar placement test score high enough to register for college level classes.
And this is exactly what Paula McClellan did!  Focused and regular study time spent in the Learning Lab led not only to Paula’s mastery of English grammar, but it also opened doors for her to complete her Associates Degree in Office Systems Technology in 2008 and to begin an exciting fulfilling career with the Avery County Health Department as Processing Assistant III.  Paula loves helping people and families and improving life situations in her local community.
“Instructors in Mayland’s Learning Lab were friendly, caring, patient, and extremely easy to talk with, so I was able to tell them about my fear of English grammar.  They assured me that most adult students have doubts about their abilities relating to English, math and/or essay writing.  The instructors convinced me that they could help me prepare successfully for the college placement exam if I would do my part by attending Learning Lab classes regularly, focusing on assigned studies, and completing class work as taught.  I followed their plan, and I learned English Grammar so well that I placed in all college-level classes on my college placement test.  I even experienced the pride and joy of earning a place on the MCC Honor Roll.”
When Paula isn’t at work in her Avery Health Department Office, she and her husband enjoy spending outdoor time with their grandkids, camping at the beach, and traveling.  Paula is also creatively gifted and excels in design and decorating.
As she reflects on the MCC Learning Lab services, Paula shares, “If you need stronger academic skills before taking the college placement test, call or go by MCC Learning Lab today.  I am so thankful I asked them for help in preparing for the college placement test; it has truly changed my life.”
