College Preparation at Mayland Community College
The Mayland Community College Basic Skills Program offers free College Preparation classes, providing instruction in reading, writing, and math skills to help students prepare for success in higher education programs at Mayland or other educational institutions.
These classes are available to adults age 16 and above who have earned a high school diploma, a GED certificate, or its equivalent.
Students enrolled in the College Preparation Course may be interested in:
- Studying for the College Placement Test (CPT)
- Enrolling in Mayland’s Curriculum or Continuing Education Programs
- Attending higher education courses at other colleges, training schools, or universities (see our College Transfer Website here).
- Boosting academic skills for college placement testing or employment exams
- Achieving personal goals
Where Classes Are Offered
GED classes are offered in each of the three counties Mayland serves.
- AVERY COUNTY: MCC Avery Campus in Newland
- MITCHELL COUNTY: Historic Mitchell County Courthouse in Bakersville &
MCC Main Campus in Spruce Pine - YANCEY COUNTY: MCC Yancey Campus in Burnsville
