Elective Courses

Students in the Associate in Science program at Mayland have some options in their course selections. This page outlines what is available in each category.

To get the course description for a class, click on its name.

Please consult the semester-by-semester course listings (day) for required courses for the major.

We recommend that you consult with any institution to which you are planning to transfer on course selection at MCC.

What the Colors Mean...

We have color-coded our classes so you can easily learn required courses and electives.

X = Required of All Majors X = Natural Sciences Elective
X = History Elective X = Other Required Hours Elective
X = Humanities/Fine Arts Elective X = Social/Behavioral Sciences Elective
X = Literature Elective X = Mathematics Elective

Electives Groupings

Electives are grouped in the following manner

History Electives
(3 Semester Hours Credit)

Students must take at least one history course.

Select from:

Humanities/Fine Arts Electives
(9 Semester Hours Credit)

Select three courses from at least two of the following discipline areas: art, drama, dance, foreign languages, interdisciplinary humanities, music, philosophy, and religion.

Select from:

Literature Electives
(3 Semester Hours Credit)

Students must take at least one literature course.

Select from:

Natural Science Electives
(8 Semester Hours Credit)

Select two courses, including accompanying laboratory work, from among the biological and physical science disciplines.

Select From:

Mathematics Electives
(6 Semester Hours Credit)

Select one course at the precalculus level or above; the other unit may be selected from among other quantitative subjects.

Social/Behavioral Science Electives
(9 Semester Hours Credit)

Select three courses from at least two of the following discipline areas: anthropology, economics, geography, history, political science, psychology, and sociology.
