Associate in Fine Arts (A10200)

QUICK LINKS:

The Associate in Fine Arts Program at Mayland Community College is designed to allow you to complete the first two years of a Bachelor’s Degree at Mayland and then move on to complete your fine arts degree at a 4-year college or university.

What makes Mayland's Associate in Fine Arts program unique is that it is offered in collaboration with the world-famous Penland School of Crafts and allows students the flexibility to study with Penland instructors while taking general education courses at Mayland.

Curriculum Description:

The Associate in Fine Arts Program is designed for the students who plan to transfer to a four year institution to continue their formal education for a Baccalaureate Degree. The AFA program of study includes a general education core of 28 semester hours credit distributed as follows:

  • English Composition (6)
  • Humanities/Fine Arts (6)
  • Social/Behavioral Sciences (9)
  • Natural Sciences/Mathematics (7)

The remaining hours in the Associate in Fine Arts program consists of courses related to the arts, music, theatre, drama, etc.

Students who are planning to transfer to a private college or out-of-state institution should consult with that institution for academic course selection guidance.

The students' faculty advisors should be consulted for a listing of the courses that will satisfy the degree requirements for transfer purposes.

Program of Study

Each candidate for the Associate in Fine Arts degree will have an individualized semester-by-semestter plan that incorporates the desired and relevant courses the student wishes to take at Penland School, along with MCC courses appropriate for transfer to the 4-year institution of his or her selection.
